Luccicare, which is the Italian term
meaning "to shine," was commissioned in
2003 for the annual Dorman High School Symphony
Orchestra concerto concert. Featuring two double
basses, the piece uses only a light string ensemble
as accompaniment.
Aimed at talented students, the two double bass
parts are challenging, teaching the soloists many new
positions for the bass. However, the work sits
comfortably in the hand, meaning that the technical
aspects of the piece can be mastered relatively
quickly, and the piece can be a flashy addition to
any student's portfolio.
